Unable to add items to active inventory

When playing on a creative world we are unable to easily select items from the inventory to add to our active items inventory. It takes a few tries of entering and exiting the inventory before we are able to add items.

Bug affects brand new worlds and a fresh setup of Minecraft on Nintendo Switch. I thought it was down to corrupt Save Data but having wiped the save data the issue persists.
