Word Combinations Not Showing up on sign

I was trying to put a Spruce sign on the end of a chest and wanted it to be labeled 

Ice
 &
Snow

It kept deleting the word snow even if I tried ICE's & SNOW's and combinations thereof.  It finally worked by putting the word Snow on the upper line/
