Keyboard not working properly on Xbox series X

The interface for using the keyboard on Xbox has drastically changed making it really difficult to type in commands, chat, use books and make signs.

Whenever I need to type in the chat or command box I have to press enter or '/' the first time, then enter again to bring up the Xbox pad to type, type what I need, then press enter once more to input the text into the chat or command bar, and then grab my controller to press the start button to actually input the text or command.

I used to be able to just type what I need and press enter.
