Blocks are placed upwards when continuing to build in Minecraft Bedrock

Whenever you build on the ground, for some reason it places blocks upwards instead of the direction you are going in. To continue placing, you have to let go of the right click button and press it again. This is slightly inconvenient as you can't continuously place blocks.
