Lost items, health not regaining

Me and my friend had just finished defeating the ender dragon, and when we went through the portal to go back home are inventory was empty. We where also having trouble to get are health to regain, are hunger bar was full but are hearts would not go up. Theses bugs made it hard for us to defeat the ender dragon and to keep playing are survival world.
