Can't interact with blocks or other items/animals

In-game the buttons register. For example, if I want to hit something I can see the animation. I did a remapping to any button and can see yes it's not my buttons.  
What happens if I can't interact with said items? I can't for example dig dirt even tho I see the animation for it.   I can't craft at the table, or open doors.  
My trigger inputs do not cause a response. I go to break grass for example and it doesn't matter which input I map it to I can't break anything. This is the same for interactions for crafting tables, riding horses, and things of that nature. I did a test to make sure it wasn't my system and can conclude it's not my system. I also noted I only had this issue after the current patch. Can I please receive some help? Thank you in advance
