My son lost all inventory

My son was playing Minecraft on his switch - when he rejoined his world, he instantly died for some reason by glitching into a wall. When he started up again after suffocating in stone, he saw that he had lost all of his inventory and a lot of work in the game. Can this be reclaimed somehow? He is very upset.
