Portal takes player to same X,Z coordinates in Nether as were in Overworld

Sometimes when going through an nether portal in the nether or the overworld, the portal will take you to the coordinates of the dimension that you left from. If you have a portal at 1000,1000 you would go to 1000, 1000 in the other dimension. Also whenever this happens, going through the portal would make you get stuck on a building terrain screen which would only go away if you leave the world and then join back.
