Connecting to worlds

My sister and I have been trying to connect to each other's worlds but whenever we try and go on the other persons world, it says 'unable to connect.' We are connected to the same wifi and we have added each other as friends. I do not believe this is an issue with our wifi, I think it may be a version update which has caused this.
