Unable to craft diamond or iron items. Recipes do not appear

I am unable to craft iron or diamond items using a crafting table, except for tripwire hooks.  The recipes do not appear and cannot be replicated using the 9x9 block crafting area. This appeared after a lMinecraft update I installed this morning, 23 July 2022.
