Nintendo Switch avatar system not working

For the past months, I've been experiencing a bug or system error which does not let me switch my avatars. You have 5 preset avatar options available so you can pick and choose which one you want. However, these skins are old and I wish to equip a new skin. However, there are only 4 avatar presets loaded. On top of this, I cannot select new skins to equid to my presets. I click "Change Classic skin", and then get into the skin menu. All of my packs load as expected, but when I try to click "Equip" the button never loads. This happens with every skin, including the ones that I've bought in the past. Another thing that happens is when I pull out the menu from the left, this happens (picture below). 
I can still squid emotes and capes, but those don't do a lot for me. This has been an issue for awhile now, and I find it ridiculous that the things I've bought in the past I can't equid right now. I would like some help with this.
