Input delay while auto-saving

sooooooo when I'm exploring, my game autosaves, but when it autosaves my keyboard inputs get very delayed. so if its autosaving and I was running, I would still be running even if I let go of "w". this only bothers me when my game autosaves and I end up not being able to stop myself from falling into a ravine or a really deep pit. the only thing thats not delayed is the inputs coming from my mouse (like looking around and clicking). the only thing i can do to stop myself is looking the opposite direction.
