Going through Nether/End portal causes game to get stuck on "Building Terrain", and restarting the game teleports player to the same coordinates of the dimension that they left from

So this happened a few minutes ago. I was in the nether playing with a friend of mine gathering stuff. when we went to go back they got through the portal immediately while my screen was stuck on loading terrain which found odd since I created the world.

 I exited minecraft and got back on to find myself Thousands of blocks away and in a random ocean. Theres no portal in the sky and my friends are having no issues with the portal. Im extremely confused and annoyed since I now have to walk 6k blocks back to my base.
