friend multiplayer error

for about a year I have not been able to join my friend's multiplayer world, it just says unable to connect to world, or something along those lines, my friend has tried going on different wifi networks and different devices still having the same error  

 

edit: my friend plays on xbox and ios, i play on windows 10 and ios
