Worlds become unsynced when reinstalling Minecraft after a console switch

My worlds won't sync up and because of that I can't access them to delete them to free up space. How can this problem be resolved and why does the world need to be synced before I can get access to the world edit options? If it didn't need to sync beforehand there wouldn't be a problem, but this has been an ongoing and unresolved problem since bedrock edition dropped. So much space is being used up and I can't do anything about it except delete all data on my Xbox which I am not willing to do.
