Sheep do not update grass block

I'm trying to make an automatic sheep farm, but every time the sheep eat the grass to regain their wool, they don't update the grass block to send a signal to the observer. I'm not sure if this is a bug, but it doesn't make sense that this would be a new mechanic, and I haven't been able to find anything about it
