Disappearing Horse

I was riding a horse in one of  my worlds, and I rode it into some water. It forced me off the horse, but when I looked for my horse again, it had disappeared. I couldn't find it anywhere that I looked for it, nor could I find the diamond horse armor or saddle that it was wearing.
