iOS render distance is limited and performance is significantly worse

I used to be able to play minecraft on my iPad with a render distance of 40 chunks (the max) and everything loaded perfectly fine. In 1.19 however my maximum render distance is now 13 and it even shows a warning that it might cause lag. Not only that but chunks fail to render even with this considerably tiny render distance. Chunks take way too long to load now.
