Dropped items get stuck at the end of a waterflow

When items are dropped at the end of a waterflow (connecting to another waterflow), those stay floating instead flowing.

 

How to replicate.

1. Build a chain of two waterflows, the first one, one block above the other one (see attachments).
2. Drop an item at the end of the higher waterflow (see attachments for the drop spot).
