Mineshaft intrusion into Ancient City

Here is an ancient city in seed -823932072 being substantially intruded upon by a mineshaft.  I understand mineshafts are not intended to penetrate into the Deep Dark biome; possibly this happened because the 'air' section of an Ancient City extends much further upwards than the Deep Dark biome otherwise would?
