My saves won't sync up

when I open Minecraft and hit play the game will try to sync up with my other xbox but it never works. I just getting the same pop up that says that the sync is taking too long even when I would press sync again it would load for 2 - 3 seconds than instantly say it's taking too long. This has been happening since before the cave update and I really have no idea on how to fix it
