Render Distance reduces performance

After the Render dragon was introduced to Minecraft Bedrock Mobile I thought it would improve performance in-game, but after I started playing I realized it would not let me go higher than 10 chunks while before it let me up to 32 chunks and it would not lag, but now 10 chunks make it lag somewhat. What’s happening?
