My parrots will not die from cookies

So after feeding a parrot a multitude of cookies, it did not die. Which I thought was strange. I then tried taming the parrot first and then feeding it the cookies. It still didn’t work. I joined a new world, restarted the game, even got my sister to try. However, none of that worked for us.
