Using kill command while holding a totem glitches the game out

If You hold a totem (either in main or off hand) and type in /kill the game gives you visual effects that means you will see that you have effects but the effects won't apply.

Steps to Reproduce :
1. Create/Join a world and turn on Keep Inventory
(This can be done by typing /gamerule keepinventory true)
2. Hold a Totem of Undying
3. Type in /kill in chat
4. Your player will glitch out

Observerd Results :
The player gains some effects but only visually
(Player will see fire resistance applied to him but will still burn and die)

Expected Results :
After typing /kill player should just die and not get any effects.
