Villagers can wear armor but are not affected

If you use a dispenser, to put armor on a villager, it seems to work. However, the villager with armor take the same amount of swipes from a diamond sword as a normal villager does. Also, when it dies, the armor dissapears. Forever. Thorns on the armor also does nothing. Zombies attack it without any damage done to the zombie.
