Going through nether portal and suffocating

1.18.12 hotfix:Upon entering a nether portal from the overworld I was stuck on the loading screen building terrain had to force close my game but according to a friend it said I suffocated in a wall upon loading back in I was loaded in at my bed with no items no death screen or anything
