Floating scaffolding

I was building scaffolding from about 30 blocks below Bedrock to the surface. When I broke the scaffolding at the base they broke all the way up to the point right where the deep slate met stone/ where bedrock would have used to be in the old versions of Minecraft. At that point, the scaffolding was just floating like it was sitting on a block but there was nothing underneath it.
