OpenXR VR shortcut does not work in x86 installs

The shortcut to launch Minecraft using OpenXR in VR ( minecraft://Mode/?OpenXR=true ) does not seem to work on in x86 installs of Minecraft ( Microsoft.MinecraftUWP_1.18.1201.0_x86_8wekyb3d8bbwe ). When you launch it using this shortcut, it just launches the normal flat screen version of Minecraft. It works fine using the x64 install ( Microsoft.MinecraftUWP_1.18.1201.0_x64_8wekyb3d8bbwe ) on the same machine.
