Customized Skin changes back to standard Steve Skin after every log out

After creating a customized skin to my desired look I played and logged out.  After starting the game back up my character skin has been changed back to the Steve skin (with the exception of the facial features I've added such as hair style and beard).  Everything else has to be recustomized every time prior to playing
