Game crashes every single time after clicking update and play

Since the 1.18 update (Caves and Cliffs). You only have the option to "update and play" which crashes the software instantly every single time since the update. I have no way of getting into my world (2000 hours) which is frustrating. I try multiple times a day and the results are the same.
