Joining a WiFi session

When trying to join a WiFi session from my iPhone 4S iOS 6, the hosts structures and avatar only become visible when the host moves around within the structures and into the clients field of view. The world appears as it was when originally generated otherwise.
Quite a hard one to explain, please reply if this is not clear!
