Going through nether portal crashes my game

Im currently in the nether and when i attempt to go through the portal it said "generating terrain" then the game crashes. Ive tried this 3 times. I dont have a screenshot or video of this currently

UPDATE: i made a copy of the world as i was in the nether and it spawned me in the overworld on top of my house, i tried going through the portal and back in the copy and it seems to work fine, but i want to use my original world.
