When I leave a boat, the boat dissappears

I started a new Minecraft world, and was using a boat to find a village or mountain or cave through the oceans, I found a jungle biome and decided to get some wood and so I left the boat, when suddenly, the boat dissappeared. Please fix this I ocean travel alot
