my stuff disappeared

i was playing minecraft in my world for a while, and then i decided to leave. after a couple minutes, i logged back on and my stuff in my inventory were gone. i leave the game again and join the next morning. when i join the world, im being attacked by a witch in my house, that wasnt there when i logged off the previous night. i believe im being attacked while im not connected to the game and i dont know why.
