Elytra texture changes default when 2nd player joins with no cape

So i was in a world and my elytra with my 2019 cape on. My friend joined the world a few minutes later but they didn't have a cape. All of a sudden my elytra switched to the default elytra instead of the 2019 minecon elytra. I took off my elytra and put them back on but the elytra was still the default texture instead of the capes.
