entity/ mob lagging

Version 1.17.40. New issues with extreme mob/entity lagging. Mobs spawn less and move slowly. Player can move and attack normally but monsters are glitchy and don't always receive hits they should. Also lag with other entities like blocks when mined are laggy and delay picking up.
