My sister and I can't join each other.

So I basically, whenever my sister and I try to join each other in a game, we just get a notification that says we're unable to connect to the world. Neither of us have trouble joining anyone else, we sit right next to each other, we're friended in Minecraft, and Minecraft is always up to date. Why can't we join each other?
