Random pillars of water and lava above ground

After updating my 1.17.40 world, random pillars of water and lava are appearing in previously loaded areas. I assume this is due to some terrain regeneration and height adjustment. What was even more strange is that I went through an area where there were no pillars and slept for the night. I then went back the same way and there were new pillars of water.
