I can not create wood in minecraft i have bedrock and there was a lil update and i cant craft wood

Well i created a new world and i cannot create wood the simplest thing in minecraft it doesnt show available on the screen where i can craft things and when i put it the mini crafting table in my inventory it doesnt show up
