Azalea trees grow through blocks

Azalea trees can grow through blocks, which is very weird.

How to reproduce:
Make a small cage
Plant an azalea tree inside

What I expected:
The azalea tree won't grow out of the cage, or won't grow

What I saw:
There were azalea leaves outside the cage
