Cross-platform Xbox and PC "Unable To connect"

 I recently got Minecraft and wanted to play multiplayer, but every time my friend and I on Xbox tried to connect to each other's it showed unable to connect. Checking fixes online and reaching to Minecraft support yielded no solution so I believe it is a bug. This is the first I've bought Minecraft and played, and the Xbox player I tried playing with, has already been able to connect with other people even with a PS4 player. It firstly shows connecting after which it ends up just saying "unable to connect".
