Unable to name nametag using anvil

Using a name tags purchased from a librarian villagers, I am unable to assign a name to them using the anvil. The renamed tag is not showing up in the rightmost box, so I am unable to  take the updated nametag. This problem seemed to manifest after the most recent update.
