Shields don't take damage from explosions

Shields don't take durability damage from explosions. This is really weird.

How to reproduce:
Make an explosion
Block it with your shield

What I expected:
The shield will take some damage and have an animation

What I saw:
The shield didn't even move and I didn't take damage. Players can be hurt by explosions while not blocking.
