Cannot connect to Multiplayer world

Over the past weeks me and a friend have been having an issue where we cannot join each other’s worlds. It says locating server and then “cannot connect to world”. This issue happens every time but has worked occasionally when we are on seperate WIFI connections. We have looked into settings and tried using different accounts and even signing out.
