Painting randomly break

Paintings are not usable. I decorated my entire house. But then all the paintings popped off the wall and then eventually disappeared I only found out as my wife came into the second floor to find a bunch still on the ground.

Its like every painting in that chunk popped off. They are on solid block so no reason to randomly pop off the wall. As I thought I was using them as intended. For decoration in my house on blue terracotta walls.

I am thinking maybe its a side effect of lightning strikes? is there an explosion that knocks down paintings? If so this needs to be patched as I do not enjoy losing 20-40 paintings in my house randomly. As it stands I will not be using paintings if they are all going to fall off the walls and despawn. Very disappointing. =(
