Skeleton wouldn't burn in sunlight

While working on a dead tree, I got attacked a skeleton in pure daylight without it ever catching fire. The skeleton acted as if it would in darkness except it wouldn't if you walked a few blocks from it and didn't seem to detect me as well compared to an average encounter.
