Xp not produced when smelting basalt

I cook Basalt to smooth Basalt and obtain zero xp over and over I've been running a lot thru I get the smooth Basalt but no xp.

Steps to Reproduce:

1. Place a furnace
2. Put coal and basalt in the furnace
3. Wait for the basalt to smelt into smooth basalt
4. Switch to Survival mode
5. Take the smooth basalt out of the furnace

Observed Results:
The player does not receive experience.

Expected Results:
The player should receive experience.
