Multiplayer not working in beta

My friend and I are both on the same beta version (and both on windows 10) , and there is nothing wrong with our internet connection, but we are unable to join each other's worlds. When I tried to join their world, it was perpetually stuck on "Joining multiplayer game", and when I cancelled it, it said "Loading Resources" despite nothing happening. We tried for about thirty minutes but we had no luck.
