Dead mobs don't cast shadows anymore

The bug

As soon as an entity dies and begins playing its death animation, its shadow disappears. This was not an issue in earlier versions.

How to reproduce

1. Spawn a cow
2. Kill it
Expected results
Its shadow sticks around until it poofs away

Observed results
The shadow disappears early
