Bedrock clients cannot connect to my server by domain

Clients on Bedrock edition 1.17.11 (cannot test other versions as I only have windows 10 edition) attempting to connect to my server via domain get an invalid IP error. this does not occur using the IP that the domain points to.

As far as I can tell, this issue stems from the game failing to resolve DNS records, as both IP and domain work for the java edition server hosted on the same box
